All variations of the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle number the Viking casualties in a complicated manner, stating that eight hundred "men with him" and a more forty (or sixty) "adult males of his army" were being killed. The "B" and "C" variations point out that the Vikings suffered 8 hundred and sixty lifeless.
