Red foxes are major competitors of corsac foxes, as they hunt the same prey all calendar year. A 2008-2010 study of 84 red foxes in the Czech Republic and Germany discovered that effective looking in prolonged vegetation or below snow appeared to entail an alignment of the pink fox with the Earth's magnetic industry. A submissive fox approached by a dominant animal will emit a ululating siren-like shriek.
