The federal government has created several statutes to counteract discriminatory practices. Renewal of The Voting Rights Act of 1965 - The provisos of The Voting Rights Act of 1965, scheduled to expire in 1970, are prolonged in 1970, and again in 1975 and 1982. Because of the nature of this Act and the encompassing climate during its preliminary creation, certain provisos have been made to ensure non-discriminatory practices.
