An incident took area for the duration of the 1941 Harvard-Navy lacrosse sport, when the Harvard Crimson men's lacrosse team tried to area a player of African-American descent. Conant was appointed to the National Defense Research Committee (NDRC) in 1940, turning into its chairman in 1941.
