The brothers, who grew up in North Carolina, observed a lot of areas that reminded them of their have childhoods in that location, and felt the space would work very well with the narrative change to the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana. After the aftermath of the massacre, more than two hundred bullet holes ended up observed in the church.
