Jungle exotica was a Hollywood development, with its roots in Tarzan flicks (and even further back again to William Henry Hudson's novel Green Mansions). When American servicemen returned dwelling following the close of World War II in 1945, they brought with them stories and souvenirs from their time in the South Pacific that helped to enhance the attractiveness of what Hollywood experienced established the stage for Donn Beach to develop.
