The expression can, in principle, be applied to both adult men and females, but in exercise it picks out not sexless males in general, but a specified sort of sexless gentleman: the variety who is confident he is owed intercourse, and is enraged by the women who deprive him of it. Instead they insisted that women were entitled to sex cost-free of guilt, together with heterosexual intercourse, if they wished it.
