The patent was submitted in 1998 and granted in February 2001, but arrived to developers' focus late final month when attorneys for Maz Technologies, the patent holder, contacted computer software firms Pc Dynamics and Envoy Data and asked for licensing fees for what Maz believes is unauthorized usage of its encryption technological innovation.
