Luke and Leia then appear to be playing the trope as straight as an arrow (the "for luck" kiss, the scene ahead of Luke boards his X-wing, Leia's obvious distress at Luke's communications, etc) Then Han returns and will save Luke, and by extension every person on Yavin 4. In The Empire Strikes Back, Han and Leia are consistently encouraging just about every other in the course of their Relationship Upgrade.
