It is lesser than most other mongooses apart from the dwarf mongooses (genus Helogale) and probably Galerella species. The calls of banded mongooses also have a 'vocal signature' to identify the caller. Short-vary 'close calls' are produced although foraging and just after scanning the vicinity for predators.
