One of Garland's most thriving movies for MGM was Meet Me in St. Louis (1944), in which she launched three benchmarks: "The Trolley Song", "The Boy Next Door" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas". Berkeley was staging all the musical numbers and was intense with Garland's absence of effort, frame of mind and enthusiasm.
