Although nineteenth-century legislation inevitably outlawed the publication, retail, and trafficking of specific writings and pictures regarded as pornographic and would purchase the destruction of store and warehouse inventory intended for sale, the non-public possession of and viewing of (some forms of) pornography was not manufactured an offence until finally the twentieth century. Both kinds of pornography commonly incorporate nudity.
