On September 9, 2013, an inside NSA presentation on Iphone Location Services was released by Der Spiegel. After learning from Der Spiegel magazine that the NSA has been listening in to her particular cell telephone, Merkel compared the snooping practices of the NSA with these of the Stasi. It was reported in March 2014, by Der Spiegel that Merkel experienced also been placed on an NSA surveillance listing along with 122 other world leaders.
