When monetary inflation sets in, the price of everything goes up, and up, or longer. Not really a huge risk, but no longer one I'd personally bet my entire value on. If you are investing for the sake of investing then don't about with jewelry or coins which more complicated more expensive than simple gold designing, molding, packaging and marketing cost.
