Slightly Damned: The "beast" (a demon) is explained to an in-universe variant of the trope-naming tale. This gets to be considerably less and considerably less of an impediment as the tale progresses. There is a minimal subversion while, as it turns out Humans Are the Real Monsters who travel them apart, leading to the deaths of the lovers and the capture of the toddler Terra.
