Anytime someone buys, they obtain a certificate to prove that they truly did purchase gold. With that in perspective (that I value currencies against gold, not one other way around) let's go back to the initial issue. However, if you should do have a 401K plan you could convert it to a gold 401K plan by simply asking your employer create gold to ones account.
