Kirishima was a battlecruiser converted to a fast battleship, and it fell in the same engagement because the Ayanami as one other sufferer of the USS Washington. Ayanami ran troops to Guadalcanal, however was destroyed by the battleship USS Washington in the course of the climatic naval battle of the campaign.
