The Code Noir and other slave guidelines resulted in enslaved and free African Americans to carry out their religious procedures in secluded parts such as woods (hush arbors), church buildings, and other destinations. The Code Noir in French colonial Louisiana, prohibited and made it illegal for enslaved Africans to follow their regular religions.
