Eaters of the Dead was tailored into the 1999 movie The 13th Warrior directed by John McTiernan, who was afterwards taken out, with Crichton himself using more than route of reshoots. In 1999, Ebert established his personal film festival, Ebertfest, in his hometown, Champaign, Illinois.
