Within the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Family Code states that the husband is the pinnacle of the household; the spouse owes her obedience to her husband; a wife has to live along with her husband wherever he chooses to dwell; and wives will need to have their husbands' authorization to bring a case in courtroom or initiate other authorized proceedings. In Iraq, the law allows husbands to legally "punish" their wives.
