Beginning in the mid-1990s, Era supporters began an effort to acquire ratification of the Era by the legislatures of states that did not ratify it concerning 1972 and 1982. These proponents condition that Congress can take away the ERA's ratification deadline irrespective of the deadline acquiring expired, permitting the states once more to ratify it.
