The Johnson administration tried to mediate the conflict, but communicated by Fortas and other people that it would not oppose Israeli army action. Accepted into Undergraduate Pilot Training (UPT), he failed to complete the course, but subsequently utilized for and was recognized into Undergraduate Navigator Training (UNT) at Mather Air Force Base, California in July 1969.
